Centering — Grammatical Role Cf Ranking #
The English-default Cf ranking, by grammatical role: SUBJECT > OBJECT > OTHER.
[GJW95] §5 surveys the evidence (their examples 11–14) that grammatical role is the major determinant of Cf ranking in English. [Kam86] argued for grammatical role over [Sid79]'s focus-based proposal; the [GGG93] repeated-name penalty experiments provide independent empirical support.
Grammatical role used to rank Cf elements ([Kam86], [GGG93]): SUBJECT > OBJECT > OTHER.
- subject : GrammaticalRole
- object : GrammaticalRole
- other : GrammaticalRole
